Designing Systems That Work for Everyone

At IMPACT 2026, I focused on a question that sits at the center of much of my work: what does it take to design systems that actually work for everyone?

The conversation moved beyond awareness and into application. We explored how accessibility shows up not just in individual interactions, but in the structure of organizations themselves.

A key theme from the session was this: many challenges around accessibility are not about individual effort. They are about how systems are designed.

  • When expectations are unclear, people hesitate.
  • When processes are inconsistent, outcomes vary.
  • When accessibility depends on individual knowledge, it becomes uneven.

These are not isolated issues. They are signals.

During the presentation, I shared research and real-world examples that highlight how accessibility can be integrated into everyday decision-making. Not as an extra step, but as part of how work gets done.

We also talked about momentum. What allows accessibility efforts to continue over time instead of fading after initial attention?

The answer often comes down to alignment.
  • Alignment between leadership priorities and daily practice.
  • Alignment between faculty confidence and institutional support.
  • Alignment between what we say matters and what we actually measure.

One of the strongest responses from the audience came from this idea that accessibility is not a one-time initiative. It is an ongoing process that requires structure, clarity, and commitment.

That is where real impact happens.

What I appreciated most about IMPACT 2026 was the willingness to engage with complexity. There was a shared understanding that meaningful change is not simple, but it is possible.

And it starts with how we design the systems around us.

If your organization is thinking about how to move from intention to implementation, I would welcome the opportunity to work together.
