Dr. Stephanie Cawthon will present a live online workshop, Deaf Students with Learning Disabilities: Frameworks, Data, and Strategies for Support and Success, to the annual conference of the Canadian Educators Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CAEDHH-BC 2021) on Friday, October 22.

Born in Canada, Dr. Cawthon is thrilled to engage with Canadian educators to improve inclusion and equity for disabled students and wants to ensure as many people as possible have access to the conference. She donated her honorarium for the workshop back to the organization to provide stipends to people who could not afford the conference registration fees.

Dr. Cawthon’s workshop will explore:

  • The complexity of diagnostic considerations, intersectional identities, and academic performance.

  • Academic achievement data and evidence.

  • Instructional strategies for inclusive and supportive learning environments.

  • Empowering deaf students for success.

This workshop is based on Dr. Cawthon’s research published in the Review of Research in Education and her chapter in the most recent Oxford Handbook of Deaf Studies in Literacy.
