The July 2026 Issue of The Latest: Iceland, Wins, and Bookings Open!

Welcome to the July issue of The Latest! This month we’re sharing insights on how to create authentic opportunities for disabled people in school, work, and in the community.

Iceland.

The land of Puffins, Glaciers, Waterfalls, and Lava.

Also the site of many scenes from “Game of Thrones”.

The sheer vastness of wind whipping along the glacier ice sheets stand in contrast to the quiet intimacy of birds nesting and sheep grazing in the shadow of mossy cliffs.

During my recent trip around the Hringvegur (the Ring Road), it truly felt at times as if we were exploring the great unknown “Beyond the Wall”.

It was both mentally and physically challenging but also came with great rewards that I will carry with me always. Each turn was a new adventure, a new way of seeing things, and a new reflection of light, water, wind, and rock.

What a perfect way to understand the work of accessibility:

Vastness: There’s so much work to do sometimes it is hard to know where to start. In the end, the first step is the best step. Followed by a next step!

Intimacy: Accessibility is always about a person, or people, in relationship to each other and our world. Remember that access is about care and empathy.

Challenging: Accessibility requires dedicated effort, especially when we need to think critically about how and why we design our school, work, and community infrastructure.

Rewarding: The wins are truly wins, no matter how small. They connect humanity together at a time when we are increasingly disconnected and pulled apart.

May our journeys into the unknown continue to bring each of us back to ourselves, and to each other!
