Dr. Stephanie Cawthon will present a live workshop “How to Empower Your Deaf Students to Succeed at School (and Life)” on Thursday, August 19, as part of the Best Practice in Mainstream Education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students Conference hosted by the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).

In her workshop, Dr. Cawthon will call on educators of deaf and disabled students to rethink the strategies they use to empower young adults who are preparing for or making the difficult transition to life after high school — to go beyond simple checklists and instead use a “design for life” approach that motivates students to evolve as people, seize opportunities, and respond to ever-changing environments.

The workshop is live online at 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. EDT and is open to all.

Dr. Cawthon has donated her honorarium back to the conference to provide scholarships that will defray the cost of the $10 registration fee for the workshop for a limited number of participants. Before registering, please email Kristen Flood at kmfoea@rit.edu for information and to redeem.

NTID/RIT organizes the Best Practice conference to provide opportunities for mainstream educators to learn from deaf education experts and network with other education professionals working with deaf and hard of hearing students. Other lectures and workshops are planned for May, June, and July.
