Take me on your next walk or drive! I’m thrilled to have this audiobook as part of the full suite of Disability Is Human formats.
I was super nervous about reading this book myself.
My voice is not as strong as it could be – I am tired after a workday and my core energy is still not back post surgery. I am sure there are stumbles in the recording and places where I literally forget to breathe.
As someone who both speaks and signs, I was also continually tugged at the heart about wanting to produce a video-based, signed version of this book! I have yet to see this kind of resource in mainstream online bookselling.
If someone out there knows a way to do this well and place an ASL volume with the print, digital, and audiobook versions – please do reach out!
Connecting to the story in new ways.
Reading your own audiobook is an incredibly vulnerable yet empowering experience. I found myself on an emotional rollercoaster – noticing passages where my writing could have been sharper (don’t we all see room for improvement in hindsight? 😅), then being deeply moved all over again by the personal stories shared within these pages.
It’s both humbling and powerful to literally give voice to these experiences, especially knowing how audiobooks make our work accessible to so many more readers.
Even those moments of self-critique remind me that our work, like disability itself, is beautifully human – perfectly imperfect. What an honor to bring this version of the book into the world, adding another layer of connection through spoken word.
In gratitude…
Finishing this project was a big item on my 2025 to-do list.
Many thanks to TSPA and their audiobook partner, The Velvet Pumpkin, for working with this inaugural effort!
