In recognition of her distinguished record of addressing educational disparities, Dr. Stephanie Cawthon was honored by The University of Texas at Austin’s College of Education with the Dean’s Distinguished Community Impact Award at a ceremony on April 30, 2024.
The award celebrates significant contributions by a faculty member who has centered access and equitable opportunities for students, families, and other stakeholders. More than 220 faculty members are considered for the yearly award.
In his remarks, Dean Charles R. Martinez reflected on Dr. Cawthon’s substantial history of accomplishments in establishing educational research centers and driving their innovation, serving a wide variety of areas on campus and throughout her fields, and focusing attention on the pressing challenges of disabled people and other marginalized communities.
“I am honored to receive this award,” said Dr. Cawthon. “It is an external sign of what I strive for on the inside — that people and relationships matter, access and opportunity for all, and research that serves others.”
Dr. Cawthon also emphasized her gratitude to all who were and are a part of her collective effort to expand equity, access, and inclusion.
“I am proud to be your champion.”
