Effective August 1, Dr. Stephanie Cawthon will serve as Associate Chair and Graduate Advisor of the Department of Education Psychology in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin.
Nationally recognized for its standing in the field, the department is ranked #4 among public colleges and #6 overall in the U.S. — reflecting the excellence of its academics, research, student caliber, and faculty accomplishments.
Dr. Cawthon’s leadership positions support the day-to-day operations of the department and its new chair, Dr. Tiffany Whittaker. Dr. Cawthon’s previous role as chair of the Human Development, Culture and Learning Sciences (HDCLS) area will be appointed to Dr. Marie-Anne Suizzo.
As Graduate Advisor, Dr. Cawthon provides vital support and mentoring to current and prospective graduate program students. The Department of Educational Psychology has multiple areas of graduate study, including HDCLS, Counseling Psychology and Counselor Education, School Psychology, and Quantitative Methods.
Dr. Cawthon joined the department faculty in 2007 and is now a tenured professor with a courtesy appointment in Special Education. She teaches the innovative hybrid campus-wide course, The Culture of Disability in Education.
