Summary
Honoring Alice Wong, reflecting on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, sharing resources, and closing 2025 with gratitude, resilience, and purpose.
Welcome to the December issue of The Latest! Where we’re staying focused on people and purpose as we close out 2025.
Rest in Peace Alice Wong
Alice Wong died on November 14th, 2025. The news quickly reverberated through the disability community with an outpouring of both grief and commemoration.
She truly modeled leadership and authenticity for all of us.
Alice’s work was spotlighted in my book, Disability Is Human. The book was also part of her Disability Visibility Project book giveaway series.
Her legacy is and forever will be a powerful one.
What International Day of Persons With Disabilities (IDPD) Means to Me.
December 3rd is the annual commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities by the United Nations.
Until last year, I wouldn’t have known it was coming.
Now it’s marked on my virtual calendar.
What’s the shift?
Working in community.
For me, this day is not about individual experience.
It’s about our collective resilience and shared mission.
Because no matter who you are — whether you are working in your company employee resource group (ERG) or planning accessibility your next community event — you are making a difference one step at a time.
Those small steps forward may not seem radical, but they have a profound impact on how we view disability and how disabled people view the world.
Because people ARE paying attention to what we do and how we do it.
In my Keynote talks I challenge people to channel their inner Beyoncé.
People laugh.
But it’s not a joke and I am not kidding. Not really.
So while our world leaders chart a plan forward for people with disabilities…
This Wednesday, December 3rd, mark your own calendars for IDPD.
Take this opportunity to do one thing to raise awareness, build a connection, or share information about disabled people and their place in our world.
Not just for you, but for the people in your family, workplace, and community.

And Finally…
“The Mountains are Calling and I Must Go” ~ John Muir
A year ago I could barely shuffle with a walker across the kitchen.
Last month I hiked a mile straight up into the pines at over 10,000 feet.
The look on my face truly says it all. The trees have forever been my happy place.
As we end 2025, I hope you can also find that place where you must go…
